The bridge building competition is an annual event by the department of civil engineering under the technical symposium NIRMAAN .
Prior to the competition, each student will be provided with a kit containing popsicle sticks, glue, thread and other needed materials.
On the day of inspection, the structural efficiency, the ratio of bridge load to bridge weight,
of each bridge is tested. The group whose bridge possesses the highest structural efficiency wins
the competition.
The object of this contest is to see who can design, construct and test the most efficient bridge within the specifications. Model bridges are intended to be simplified versions of real-world bridges, which are designed to accept a load in any position and permit the load to travel across the entire bridge. In order to simplify the model bridge design process, the number of loading positions is reduced to three, and to allow the contest to proceed in a reasonable amount of time, only one loading position is actually tested.
- Arch bridges are restricted.
- Any type of truss can be used.
- No other materials other than provided in kit may be used.
- The bridge may not be stained, painted or coated in any fashion with any foreign substance.
- Registration fee: 200 per group
- Each group can have 4 members
